How Much Is a Wedding Planner in Santa Barbara? (2026 Pricing Guide)
Planning a wedding in Santa Barbara is a dream for many couples—but it comes with one big question: how much does a wedding planner actually cost?
The answer depends on your wedding style, guest count, and the level of service you need. Here’s a clear breakdown of what to expect when budgeting for a wedding planner in Santa Barbara.
💍 Average Cost of a Wedding Planner in Santa Barbara
On average, couples in Santa Barbara spend:
$5,000 – $7,000 for a wedding planner or coordinator (The Wedding Report)
This typically represents 7%–10% of the total wedding budget (The Wedding Report)
For context, the average wedding in Santa Barbara can exceed $60,000+, which explains why planner costs scale with the overall event (The Wedding Report).
📊 Wedding Planner Pricing by Service Type
Not all wedding planners offer the same level of service. Here’s how pricing breaks down:
1. Day-Of Coordinator
Perfect for couples who’ve planned everything but want a stress-free wedding day.
$2,000 – $3,500+ (Elizabeth Victoria)
Includes timeline management, vendor coordination, and setup oversight
2. Partial Wedding Planning
A middle-ground option for couples who need help with logistics and vendor coordination.
$3,500 – $8,000 (approx.)
Includes vendor recommendations, planning support, and coordination
3. Full-Service Wedding Planning
Best for destination weddings or busy couples who want everything handled.
$8,000 – $15,000+ (Elizabeth Victoria)
Includes design, vendor sourcing, budgeting, and full event execution
4. Luxury Wedding Planning
For high-end weddings with custom design and large guest counts.
$15,000 – $50,000+ (or ~15–20% of your budget)
White-glove service, full design teams, and multi-day event planning
💡 What Affects the Cost?
Several factors influence how much you’ll pay:
Guest count – Larger weddings require more coordination
Venue complexity – Beach, private estates, and multi-location events cost more
Design level – Custom décor and styling increase planner involvement
Timeline – Short timelines may require more intensive planning
Destination weddings – Santa Barbara is considered a destination market
🌿 Is a Wedding Planner Worth It?
In a place like Santa Barbara—where venues, vendors, and logistics can be competitive—a planner can actually save you time, stress, and costly mistakes.
They help with:
Vendor connections
Budget management
Timeline creation
Day-of execution
Many couples find that having a planner allows them to fully enjoy their wedding day instead of managing it.
🌸 A Note for Intimate Weddings & Elopements
If you're planning a smaller celebration—like a beach picnic, courthouse ceremony, or proposal—you may not need a full-service planner.
Instead, you can opt for:
Day-of coordination
Styled setups
All-inclusive packages
This is especially popular for intimate weddings in Santa Barbara, where simplicity and scenery take center stage.

Say “I Do” in One of the World’s Most Romantic Destinations
Santa Barbara has long been a dream destination for couples planning an elopement or intimate “micro-wedding.” With its blend of coastal beauty, historic charm, and laid-back luxury, it offers everything you need for a meaningful and unforgettable celebration—whether it’s just the two of you or a small gathering of your closest loved ones.
From breathtaking ocean views to lush gardens and elegant courtyards, Santa Barbara provides endless picturesque backdrops for your ceremony. Pair that with world-class dining, cozy boutique stays, and unforgettable experiences, and it’s easy to see why so many couples choose this coastal gem to begin their next chapter.
Here’s your guide to the best places to elope in Santa Barbara—plus a few essential tips to help you plan the perfect day.
Where to Elope in Santa Barbara
One of the most iconic elopement spots is the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. Built in 1929, this architectural gem is widely considered one of the most beautiful courthouses in the country. Not only can you obtain your marriage license here, but you can also have a same-day civil ceremony (on weekdays) with up to eight guests. For slightly larger gatherings, the surrounding gardens and lawns offer stunning settings for ceremonies of up to 15 guests—often at no cost.
If exchanging vows with your toes in the sand sounds like your dream, Santa Barbara’s coastline won’t disappoint. With miles of scenic beaches, couples can choose anything from a lively, classic beach setting to a more secluded, romantic stretch of sand. East Beach is a favorite for its quintessential palm-lined views, while Butterfly Beach and Summerland Beach offer a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere.
For couples looking to elevate the experience, luxury coastal resorts like The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, provide full-service elopement options, handling every detail so you can simply enjoy the moment. Ocean-loving couples can even say their vows aboard a private sailing experience with the Santa Barbara Sailing Center, creating a truly unforgettable ceremony on the water.
Nature lovers will also find plenty of serene park settings throughout the area. Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden offers a peaceful setting with a koi pond and gazebo, while Elings Park and Franceschi Park provide sweeping ocean and city views for a more elevated backdrop.
If you’re dreaming of a countryside celebration, Santa Barbara’s wine country is just a short drive away. With hundreds of wineries spread across nearby valleys, couples can choose from a range of styles—from rustic and romantic to modern and refined. Vineyard ceremonies offer a beautiful blend of rolling hills, golden light, and an intimate atmosphere that feels both relaxed and elevated.
How to Elevate Your Elopement Experience
Once you’ve chosen your ideal setting, it’s the thoughtful details that truly bring your day to life.
After your ceremony, consider celebrating with a beautifully styled picnic setup by The Picnic Place. Whether it’s a romantic beach picnic or a cozy garden arrangement, it’s the perfect way to slow down, soak in the moment, and celebrate with champagne, charcuterie, and stunning décor. It also creates an incredible setting for post-ceremony photos.
Speaking of photos, capturing your day is essential. Talented local photographers like Trevor Morrison and Tristin Tracy specialize in documenting intimate weddings and elopements, ensuring every candid, emotional, and beautifully styled moment is preserved.
Florals and styling details can further elevate your celebration, from simple bouquets to thoughtfully curated arrangements. Pair that with professional hair and makeup services, and you’ll feel as incredible as the setting around you.
How to Elope in Santa Barbara
Planning an elopement here is refreshingly simple, but a few key steps will help ensure everything goes smoothly.
Get Your Marriage License
You’ll need a California marriage license before your ceremony. This can be obtained through the Santa Barbara County Clerk-Recorder’s office. Completing the online application in advance will save time, and once issued, the license is valid for 90 days.
Make It Official
To legally marry, you’ll need an officiant. This can be a County Clerk for a civil ceremony, a licensed officiant, or even a friend or family member who registers as a “Deputy Marriage Commissioner for a Day.”
Plan Your Stay
One of the best parts of eloping in Santa Barbara is celebrating your first night as newlyweds in a stunning coastal setting. From luxury resorts to charming boutique inns, there’s no shortage of beautiful places to relax and take it all in.
Santa Barbara makes eloping feel effortless—combining natural beauty, romance, and thoughtful details into one unforgettable experience. Whether you envision a barefoot beach ceremony, a courthouse vow exchange, or a vineyard celebration, this coastal paradise offers the perfect setting to start your forever.

Courthouse Construction:
A multi-phase roof repair project is to be conducted on the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. Phase 3A of the roof restoration project began on Monday, April 28, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed in 6-7 months (October/November 2025). This roof project will place scaffolding and mesh from the ground of the building and up to the roof on both sides (Garden side and Anacapa side) of the Hall of Records/County Recorder’s Office.
Our recommendation is for all Garden ceremonies to take place in front of the Fiesta Stage, where the scaffolding will not be noticeable in pictures or video. Construction will be conducted Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 4 PM.
Much of this work will be conducted in silence, with no power tools, but we cannot guarantee there will not be any construction noise during the Garden ceremonies.
About:
This historic 1929 Spanish-Moorish structure is one of the most beautiful buildings in the U.S. Its meticulously maintained gardens and spacious lawns have become a popular site for special events.
Weddings that choose the Exterior Gardens reserve the site for three hours: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Please note that the Courthouse Building closes at 4:45 p.m. Our fee, comparable with other sites, is listed. These reservation fees all fall within the BOS's current fee structure.
For small wedding ceremonies with 15 or fewer participants, we have identified six suitable locations outside the reserved spaces, free of charge, primarily along the Anacapa and Figueroa Street lawn areas. These locations (A through H) are non-reservable. The complementary areas A-H are for a group of 15 or less, first come first serve, no set up (no chairs, tables, décor, arch, etc.) and you bring your officiant. Available 24/7 all year round. The officiants from the County Recorder’s Office/Hall of Records will NOT perform a ceremony in the free spaces. No reservation is taken you just walk up, stand and do your vows then vacate. These locations will provide a place for small wedding parties with the architectural treasure of the Courthouse buildings and landscaping as a backdrop.
Please note that the County Courthouse is a public building. Wedding areas may not be roped off, and all public access ways must be maintained available at all times. The County of Santa Barbara, its Directors, Employees, and Representatives are not responsible or liable for the actions of the public during Weddings/Special Events.
Courthouse Clock Tower:
The Clock Tower may not be reserved, nor utilized for wedding ceremonies.
Fees:
The fee to reserve the Exterior Gardens is $1,200 ($1,000 facility fee plus $200 non-refundable application fee). Full Payment (application plus facility fee) must be made at the time of reservation and in order to be locked into the schedule we require the application completed, signed, dated and initialed with the full payment.
Cancellations must be made at least sixty days before the event to receive a full refund, minus the non-refundable application fee. Cancellations received less than sixty days before the event will be subject to a 50% cancellation charge of the paid facility fee and cancellations less than three (3) days before the event will not receive any refund.
Santa Barbara Courthouse Garden Wedding:
The Garden is made up of 5 spaces: the Sunken Garden, Palm Terrace, Fiesta Stage, Bird of Paradise, and Rotunda Lawn. These spaces are all reserved as one. The maximum capacity is 250.
On very popular dates, it is possible for a Special Event and Exterior Kitchen placement to be visible from the Gardens. The Santa Barbara Courthouse is a multi-use facility. On any given day many activities and events can take place: from tours, weddings, large events, exterior kitchen placement, corporate events, tour buses, rally’s and celebrations.
The following rules apply to all wedding ceremonies:
No amplified sound, but soft acoustic music would be permitted.
All chairs and equipment are to be hand-carried to the wedding site.
No rice, confetti, flower petals, birdseed, or open flames are permitted.
Wedding rehearsals are not included with a wedding reservation.
Taping off or coning any area of Courthouse Grounds is not permitted.
Food or beverages are not allowed for ceremonies (unless a Light Reception is reserved).
Water bottles are permitted in exterior venues only (not in the Mural Room) and must be disposed of properly.
Stay out of planting beds.
No officiants are provided.
A Valued Experience:
From the perspective of wedding planners and prospective marriage partners, the proposed wedding program at the Courthouse Grounds offers several key benefits:
Guaranteed Reserved Space - Perhaps the primary benefit would be the option to reserve a particular location in advance. Rather than having to stake out a location early on a busy morning, planners can count on the reservation system to protect the wedding site.
Coordination with County Parks Staff - Instead of setting up wedding ceremonies under the radar, planners and families could rely on the expertise of the County Parks staff to reserve locations and answer questions.
Limiting Conflicts with Smaller Weddings - With small, unregulated wedding ceremonies relocated to the outer perimeter of the grounds, potential conflicts, especially on popular dates, will be minimized.
Reservations:
To check availability and access the Application, first click on the blue "Make A Reservation!" button below. Then, select "Facilities & Hourly Rentals." Next, select "Courthouse" and click the blue "Show Facilities" button. Finally, click on the grey Details button.
Any questions regarding a marriage license, license submit, express weddings, civil ceremony (reserved 90-days out), officiant inquiries and ceremony for up to 15 people are for the County Recorder’s Office which conducts business Monday through Friday only. To contact the County Recorder’s Office please visit the link below:
WEBSITE: https://www.countyofsb.org/595/Marriages
Please Note: Reservations may be made up to but no more than 12 months from the date of the ceremony. Reservations may not be made less than five business days from the date of the ceremony.

Stress-Free for Parents
One of the biggest advantages is convenience. Companies like The Picnic Place handle the setup and styling, allowing parents to focus on enjoying the party instead of worrying about logistics.

Avoid logos or busy patterns that might distract in photos.
Bring a backup layer (like a light jacket or sweater) in case it gets chilly by the coast.

Outfit aside, the setting matters. That’s why The Picnic Place is the go-to for Santa Barbara beach proposals. They specialize in luxury pop-up picnics—complete with styled décor, cozy blankets, candles, florals, and that effortless California romance.

This historic estate, which translates to "House of the Blacksmith," is not merely a relic of the past but a vibrant symbol of artistic and horticultural beauty that continues to enchant visitors to this day.
The Historical Roots of Casa del Herrero
Casa del Herrero was conceived in the early 20th century, during a period when the Spanish Colonial Revival style was gaining prominence in California. The estate was commissioned by George Fox Steedman, an industrialist from St. Louis, Missouri, who moved to Montecito with his family in 1925. - Hand-Painted Tiles: Adorning the walls and floors, these tiles were often imported from Spain and add vibrant splashes of color and intricate patterns to the estate’s design.
- Courtyards and Fountains: Emphasizing the importance of outdoor living, Casa del Herrero’s courtyards are serene havens with lush plantings and tranquil water features.
The Gardens: A Living Work of Art
The gardens of Casa del Herrero are as captivating as the house itself. Designed by Ralph Stevens and Lockwood de Forest, they cover eleven acres and are an enchanting blend of formal and informal styles. The gardens feature:
- Boxwood Parterres: These meticulously manicured hedges create geometric patterns that are both visually stunning and historically authentic.
- Fruit Orchards and Herb Gardens: Reflecting the practical side of Spanish estate gardens, these areas are both beautiful and productive.
- Exotic Plantings: Throughout the gardens, one can find a variety of exotic plants and trees, showcasing the horticultural diversity that was a hallmark of early 20th-century estate gardens.
